Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Knoxville, TN team. Design experience specific to civil and geotechnical engineering is required, with capabilities in foundation and geo-structural engineering required. The selected candidate will lead geotechnical/civil projects related to energy, transportation, industrial, commercial, and government sectors as well as provide leadership to other geotechnical engineers within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret and check field and laboratory data, prepare engineering calculations/analyses related to material quantities, embankments, storm events, shallow and deep foundations, settlement, soil and rock slope stability, as well as retaining walls
Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and other deliverables associated with design projects, including day to day correspondence
Review calculations and analyses prepared by other engineers
Review grading plans and models using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Review engineering reports and develop recommendations
Experience with surface mining projects, including impoundment design, tailings embankment analyses, and pore pressure dissipation is preferred
Interface with clients for assigned projects; communicate with clients on an ongoing basis; respond effectively to meets clients' needs
Provide technical expertise while working under limited supervision and demonstrate a high level of competence directing and managing mid and junior level staff for various geotechnical and/or general civil engineering project. Provide leadership to project teams as well as mentor select staff and maintain a positive team-driven work environment Skills / Qualifications
B.S. and M.S. in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college/university is required
Mining Background is preferred
P.E. license or ability to attain within 6 months
Minimum 15 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering required
Must have strong presentation and writing skills
Must have strong organizational skills for keeping multiple tasks on track from concept through delivery
Must have experience with and demonstrate a safety-first work ethic
Proficient with Microsoft Office (required); significant knowledge and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, slope stability (SLOPE/W) and seepage (SEEP/W) analyses, Mathcad, HydroCAD, and finite element analyses (preferred)
Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, as required
Requires some travel and willingness to work outdoors
Valid Driver's License
Able to lift up to 50 pounds and traverse over rugged terrain
Pass drug test and background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
