Golder is seeking a **Project Geologist** to work in our Pittsburgh-area office located in **Wexford, PA** . From this location, our team of geo-professionals provides services to clients in the transportation, oil & gas, mining, and other industrial sectors, primarily in the northeastern US. This position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions on geological, civil, and geotechnical engineering projects. The work entails a variety of office-related and outdoor “hands-on” activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, solve problems, and provide proactive communication.
The selected candidate must be comfortable with the use of technology in the practice of geology and working in the field with project teams to support geologic and geotechnical investigations. This position will include opportunities for working both outdoors and in the office with experienced teams on a variety of projects such as linear alignments for pipelines, transportation corridors, and infrastructure siting. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated education or field experience in geomorphology, geohazards, and geology of the Appalachian Basin.
**Responsibilities of the role will include:**
+ Manage projects and tasks for geologic and geotechnical investigations with senior oversight; coordinate and oversee subcontractors
+ Conduct geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards; interpret subsurface conditions and prepare exploration field notes
+ Conduct subsurface field geologic exploration tasks including observation of test pit explorations and support of drilling activities
+ Collect and evaluate a range of field data, including geotechnical instrumentation, GPS receivers, and groundwater wells
+ Perform data compilation and evaluation, report writing, GIS data analysis and management, geologic research, proposal development, and other related duties to drive and support project delivery
+ Support mentoring of junior personnel on field methods and office activities
+ Safely perform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur out-of-town in all seasonal weather conditions, while using equipment (with an ability to properly lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance) and operating vehicles on behalf of the company
+ Local and national travel (up to 50% of the time) with possible opportunities for long-term assignments at project sites
+ Bachelor’s degree in geology, engineering geology, or related field
+ Minimum of five year’s relevant work experience
+ Progress toward professional licensure (or currently licensed)
+ Computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office and basic data management software
+ Detail oriented with strong verbal and analytical skills and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams
+ Strong familiarity with geologic field skills such as field mapping and identification of geologic hazards, and an understanding of geomorphology and surface processes
+ Experience managing subcontractors
+ Ability to be comfortable in remote settings and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment
+ Master’s degree in geology, engineering geology, or related field
+ Project management or complex task management experience
+ Demonstrated experience using GIS and remote sensing data (e.g., Lidar and aerial imagery) to identify geologic hazards using remote sensing data
+ Proficiency with geotechnical engineering software and AutoCAD
