AECOM is seeking a construction engineer to join a growing NYC Water Resources Engineering Design practice. In the recent past we have concentrated on flood management/risk reduction, wetland/stream/river restoration, stormwater management systems, low impact development, and urban coastal infrastructure. Recently, due to opportunities locally, regionally, and across the US, our team has focused on large resiliency projects. The principal responsibility of the selected candidate will be to support a major, linear infrastructure, flood risk reduction project. Depending on the time of hire, the candidate will be working with the team, mostly in an office setting, on the final stages of bid packing and bid process, after which the position will transition to full-time field engineer responsibilities at the Project Site, located in Hoboken, Jersey City, & Weehawken, New Jersey. The candidate we are looking for exhibits attention to detail, possesses strong organizational skills, can work well independently, and has excellent technical writing capabilities.
+ Provide support to the Project Manager in the administration of the overall contract with the Client, focusing on the Design Services During Construction Task Order.
+ Observe construction activities on an ongoing basis to verify compliance with the Contract and in accordance with State, local, and federal standards.
+ Inspect and examine engineering project records, field notes, computations, and other documentation to assure methods of measurement and basis for payment are in accordance with project requirements, specifications, special provisions, and extra work orders.
+ Provide full-time, on-site field support at multi-stage project site in Hoboken, Jersey City, & Weehawken, NJ; assume typical construction site hours, plus some overnight work and weekend work will likely be required.
+ Assist with interpretation of drawings, construction specifications, and engineering reports in support of construction activities.
+ Assist in preparing change order documents and responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) from the Contractors and Construction Management Firm.
+ Attend project field meetings as needed.
+ Coordinate with peers and senior staff on cross-discipline design efforts (i.e. landscape architects, architects, engineers, and scientists), including change orders and RFIs.
Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
+ Interact daily with Project Managers, senior design staff, and Contract Management Firm staff.
+ Interact on a limited basis with Client, subconsultants, stakeholders, and the public.
+ Work in a fast-paced environment, dealing with construction managers & personnel.
+ Perform routine engineering and management tasks without substantial supervision.
+ Display knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction requirements.
+ 2+years professional experience, with demonstrated experience in construction administration/oversight.
+ Proficiency with AutoCAD (Microstation is a plus).
+ Construction document preparation (i.e. plans, specifications, cost estimating, scheduling).
+ Design and/or construction experience in the following areas:
+ Utility relocation/coordination;
+ Traditional stormwater management;
+ Erosion and sediment control plans; and
+ Environmental and/or Flood Hazard Permitting.
+ Additional design and/or construction capabilities in the following areas are a plus:
+ Urban infrastructure;
+ Green infrastructure /low impact development/sustainable design; and
+ Northeast regional experience.
+ 4+years professional experience, with demonstrated experience in construction administration/oversight.
