Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure (Wood E&IS) is currently recruiting a  Geotechnical Engineer with experience in with NCDOT.  This individual will be part of our Engineered Construction team that supports the Department of Transportation and Industrial Sector clients locally and abroad. The position will provide leadership opportunities within the geotechnical group, although will not have direct reports. Successful candidates will have experience working with the NCDOT and project leadership/management skills. The candidate should feel comfortable interacting with clients, construction personnel, and sub-contractors as a professional representative of Wood E&IS.
Key Responsibilities
Provide project leadership and orchestrating team efforts to execute a prescribed scope of work on time and within budget
Conduct Independent Technical Reviews on other senior professional’s work and have them review your work accordingly
Collaborate with other senior professionals for design efficacy and potential solutions prior to executing work
Lead other team members to complete work necessary to fulfill the contract requirements for their success
Engage in mentorship programs as a mentor and as a mentee Skills / Qualifications
The individual is expected to have:
B.S. in Civil Engineering with heavy emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering coursework (M.S. in Civil Engineering/Geotechnical Engineering preferred)
8-12+ years of practical geotechnical engineering experience (internship experience considered)
Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina
Ability to execute work independently while collaborating design solutions with other professionals
Rigid adherence to Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes associated with NCDOT
Strong written/oral communication skills
Working knowledge of common geotechnical laboratory tests and the ability to interpret test data
North Carolina state driver’s license (or immediate ability to receive one)
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Working knowledge of common geotechnical engineering software tools (e.g. SHAKE, Slope/W, L-Pile, A-Pile, SLIDE)
Proficiency with MicroStation and Open Roads
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
